... And we're back!
We hope you had a wonderful summer and that you and your loved ones stayed healthy and safe, and found some time to disconnect from the otherwise incessant stream of Zoom meetings.
CPF BC & Yukon is starting the 2021-22 school year with our classic Membership Drive (and fantastic draw prizes to be won!), so if you need to renew, now's the time!
This year, membership offers you and your family access to online tutoring for students, free French classes for parents, and a host of other activities like live-streamed concerts, movie nights and more.
In this Communiqué:
Merci, Rowan, et bonne chance!
Rowan Burdge served as Outreach Manager for four and a half years with CPF BC & Yukon and also stepped up last December to serve as our interim Executive Director. She guided us through an event-packed Spring 2021 and helped us hit new membership milestones.
Rowan's last day with CPF BC & Yukon was July 16. We are so grateful for her exceptional empathy, creativity and leadership that she shared with us during her tenure.
Alicia Rooney, who has been with CPF BC & Yukon for 10 years, will take over as our new Outreach Manager. Félicitations, Alicia! To refresh yourself on CPF BC & Yukon's staff and board, click here.
Tutoring Program goes national, plus Free French Classes for Parents!
We saw tremendous uptake in 2020-21 for our volunteer tutor program, and extend massive Mercis to all those volunteer experts who devoted their time to helping our French language learners.
Our neighbours at CPF Alberta are coordinating the program for the whole country this time around. They've already launched a mailing list that you can sign up for today; people on the mailing list will be the first to learn when registration opens.
We're also rebooting French classes for parents this September. There will be two classes, each with limited space, and the course is free for CPF BC & Yukon members!
Have you seen our calendar?
The CPF Network is connected through our new site and our events calendar. If you haven't explored it yet, we encourage you to do so! You can find AGMs, local entertainment nights and even virtual events accessible to all members.
The CPF BC & Yukon Branch will start adding our own events into the calendar this September.
This two-day virtual gathering will feature a slate of compelling presenters (tbd!) and will also be when we review last year's work and elect a new Board of Directors. All members are welcome to join, so please sign up today!
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE 2021
Our free membership promotion ended last March, but this year we have prizes from Idéllo, Kidsbooks, Fort Langley National Historic Site and more, and for $25 per family, there's never been a better time to join!
Your membership also supports your local Chapter, and if you join or renew between now and Oct. 31, 90% of your fee will go straight to your community. Visit our Membership Drive page to find more details on prizes and types of memberships.
A new school year is starting and you're already thinking about your child's post-secondary education next year?
They may have doubts and questions: Will my language skills be sufficient? How can I be sure that I want to pursue my studies in French?
Reassure them, they can do it!
Studying in French also means living in a French-speaking environment, having access to a diversity of accents and cultures, and continuing to learn. It's having even more communications and relationships, and a plethora of opportunities available to them.

New to FSL learning?
Are you a new CPF member, or maybe just looking for some family supports for French learning this year? Keep an eye on our "For Parents" section of the website. Here, we'll post new resources, supports and learning opportunities for the whole family.
Want to connect with other Members?
CPF is nothing without its members and its volunteers. In nearly 40 communities across B.C. and the Yukon, volunteers are the ones who invite special guests to schools, host fundraisers, Spring Break and Family Day events, movie nights and more.
They offer supports for families, donate books and resources to schools, all because they care about their students' learning experience. In normal times, they also tend to meet and share some delicious meals together while they're planning their next great idea.
To find out whom you can connect with in your region, click the map below, or email Outreach Coordinator Alicia Rooney at email@example.com.
